To establish supervisory response procedures to unusual occurrences at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (H-JAIA).
It is the policy of the Atlanta Police Department-Airport Section to respond promptly to manage situations (i.e., traffic and life-safety incidents) that may adversely impact the normal operation of the H-JAIA.
3.1 The watch commander will oversee and enforce this directive.
3.1.1 All field APD-AS lieutenants and sergeants will familiarize themselves with all applicable APD and H-JAIA directives to fulfill their job requirements.
3.1.2 The Communications Dispatcher will ensure watch supervisors acknowledge life-safety calls for service.
4.1 The APD-AS supervisors will verbally acknowledge all unusual occurrences via the police handheld or mobile radio, including but not limited to those situations listed below and go to the incident scene promptly to manage it:
1. Suspicious or unattended packages; 2. Traffic issues affecting the North and South terminal, etc; 3. Active Shooter encounters; 4. Evacuations; 5. Bomb threats; 6. Searches (i.e., planes, buildings, etc); 7. Citizen requests; 8. Lost children; 9. Police involved vehicle accidents; 10. When an officer makes a request, and 11. Other situations that require a supervisor to respond to the scene to take action.
4.1.1 The responding APD-AS supervisor will notify his or her watch commander in a timely manner about the details surrounding any airport related unusual occurrence, if it considered newsworthy or poses a life safety hazard. If in doubt, report the incident to your commanding officer/supervisor.
4.1.2 All field APD-AS supervisors will remain on airport property and visible to the public. In the event of a reported unusual occurrence, the supervisor will also inform the dispatcher of his or her estimated time of arrival (eta) and go to the scene promptly to manage traffic control and (or) life-safety situations. Upon arrival, the supervisor will announce their presence on the incident scene to the communications dispatcher.
4.1.3 The APD-AS field supervisor will supervise the mobile and post officers to ensure they are on airport property and performing the duties required by their assignment (i.e., patrolling, directing vehicular and pedestrian traffic, monitoring checkpoints, etc.)
4.1.4 If one of the required two APD-AS supervisors has to leave the airport, they must communicate and coordinate duties and responsibilities with the Communications Dispatcher and their co-supervisor. 6. DEFINITIONS
